The situation at FC Barcelona is critical. With very few days to the beginning of the season, the Blaugranas have been stopped in their tracks by LaLiga, refusing them the chance to register the players they've signed on the grounds of failing to reach the necessary wage cap space. However, the Catalan giants carry on working like there is no issue and are now closer to wrapping up another deal, Chelsea's Marcos Alonso.

The Spaniard's agent, Fali Ramadani, met with Barcelona  sporting director Mateu Alemany at the club's training complex, to discuss the last stages of the deal that would take Alonso to Barça. The deal has been greelit by Thomas Tuchel himself, who feels he can part with the Spaniard after securing the services of his countryman César Azpilicueta.

However, the operation is would be conditioned by the economic issues, as all parties have to wait for an agreement between Barça and LaLiga to resolve the financial fair play issue. Like with all of their latest signings, the Blaugrana club would require Marcos Alonso to make an effort and lower his salary expectations to make his registration easier.

Memphis Depay, a key factor

Someone who could do a lot to help Barcelona add all those new signings is Memphis Depay. Not that the Dutchman has any links with LaLiga, but rather it would be his absence that would help the club the most, by taking his wages off the books.

This is a key move for Barcelona, who need to clear all the wages they can, in the midst of their controversial decision to threaten legal action against Frenkie de Jong.

According to sources, the Dutch forward is negotiating free agency with the club. Barcelona would relinquish the 20 million euros fee they were asking for the player to ease his departure. In exchange, Memphis woud accept to leave the club, although he will ask for a move to a top club, with the biggest option so far being Juventus.
