The Polish striker didn't have a good day against his old side, and his former bosses and the press were quick to point it out

 "It wasn't easy today", those were the words of Robert Lewandowski after his return to the Allianz Arena, receiving a thunderous applause by the Bayern Munich fans. Moreover, the Pole watched how FC Barcelona was defeated by the Bavarian giants in a match were he wasn't comfortable in front of goal.

That perfomance was ironically well received by the Bayern board, who clearly were happy their former man wasn't in his best days. "You can tell that he still keeps Bayern in his heart", commented an amused Herbert Hainer, club president for the Bavarians.

Others at the Bayern structure were less on the nose with the Pole's mishaps, with Oliver Kahn commenting that he had spoken with the Barcelona man and that "the two or three really good chances that he had are usually scored", while head coach Julian Nagelsmann that "you always have to welcome former players with appreciation", commenting on the fans' reaction to Lewandowski.

The German press was, on the other hand, was happy pile on the misery. Newspaper Bild commented on "Lewandowski's rocky comeback", putting forward the point that Bayern was always going to know how to neutralize him: "Bayern knew how things worked with Robert Lewandowski. Now, they are also aware of what to do against him".

Xavi Hernández, however, was quick to defend Robert Lewandowski, suggesting that it was simply a bad day: I don't think the pressure could have been able to him, with his maturity and experience. It is lack of effectiveness. It's football and this happens. And it happened in the stadium where it couldn't happen".
