One of Barça's YOUNG STARS stays: another 1 BILLION release clause

One of the keys to Xavi's Barcelona has been a return to some of the club's values when it comes to young players development. A core part of the Blaugrana's philosophy during the days of Pep Guardiola, the young players coming out of La Masia lost a place in recent years against the big name signings, and the coach (an academy graduate himself) is trying to bring that back.

One of his best players to come out of this effort has been Pablo Gavira, better known as Gavi, but his continuity was in doubt as his deal was set to expire in 2023. Now, however, Xavi, the board and the fans can sleep calmly as Gavi will be staying at Barcelona.

Gavi had received interest from a number of elite European teams, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City. However they will have to wait as the 18 year old creative midfielder has just signed a new contract with Barça. In fact, the agreement had been on the table for a while now, but could only be signed this week as the club had to secure the necessary funds due to the economic context they were going through.

Now, after signing long-term contracts with other young club stars like Ronald Araujo, Ansu Fati, and Pedri, the club has now officially announced the new agreement, making Gavi the latest La Masia to pledge his future to Barça.

Gavi's contract will be for another four years, taking his connection with FC Barcelona until at least 2026. His wages are also set to multiply many times over, with a jump from 200,000 euros per season to 3,5 million. He will also be the sixth player to be given a record 1 billion euros release clause, which more than likely secures his future at FC Barcelona unless the club decides otherwise.
