He may be a World Cup winner, and he could one of his best players if he's fit but Didier Deschamps isn't calling Paul Pogba to his Qatar 2022 team if the midfielder isn't ready for the rigours of elite football, and he recently confirmed us much.

The manager of the French National Team has one of the easiest or hardest jobs in world football, depending on how you look upon it. On the one hand, he has a plethora of talent at his disposal, with multiple options in pretty much every position; on the other, he has to lead that team to success or he'll be branded a failure. That's probably the reason why he has no room for sentimentality in his squad selection, and Paul Pogba may fall a victim of that.

The midfielder, who spent four years at Manchester United before rejoining Juventus this summer, won the World Cup with France in Russia in 2018. When an  issue with his meniscus was identified during the summer training, Pogba initially opted against operating due to the long recovery times and his ambition to compete in the 2022 World Cup. However, the decision did not work out because he ultimately needed surgery to stop more issues from developing.

Now, however, during a recent press conference, the French National Team coach Didier Deschamps sent a clear signal to the Juventus midfielder: "I have never taken a player to a tournament if he has not fully recovered. I don't have the answers today but I would never take a player, whoever that might be, if there is a chance he is not fit for the first match".
