Manchester United are down and everybody wants a piece of the action right now. Whatever happens at Old Trafford, every pundit and journalist is ready to come for the Red Devils, after their disastrous start to the season and the transfer market woes. This time, it was a former Premier League player who went after United.

"Before the season started I said that Manchester United have been desperate in their attempts to get De Jong. He don't want to sign for them, I've been proved right, he doesn't want to go there", explained Gabriel Agbonlahor in an interview with UK radio talkSPORT.

Agbonlahor, who took part in more than 300 Premier League matches and was an international with England, was quick to go after the Red Devils following their start to life under Erik ten Hag: "They've tried to get Rabiot and I don't blame him, he wants top dollar to go to Manchester United, the only reason he's going to go there is for the money. They've not going to give it him".

"Why would he leave to Manchester United where they're at now, a shambles of a club, turmoil in the dressing room, losing their first two games? Why would he go there?", furthered his point Agbonlahor, backing up Adrien Rabiot for his demands to join the Red Devils after it became known that he asked for £8 million a year in wages and hefty signing fees.

The former Premier League striker, who managed 86 goals for Aston Villa, was also critical of Manchester United's backup plan: "Then it's desperation [and they go for] Casemiro. Did they not learn from Varane? Signing Varane at 28, 29 and he's not been the same player he was at Real Madrid. Casemiro's been amazing for them, but they've got some up-and-coming top midfielders, Camavinga, still got Kroos and Modric, so they'll be happy to get some money in for Casemiro. Manchester United seem desperate. It's a shame to see".

These comments come in the context of Manchester United's alleged offer of 80 million euros (£67 million) to Real Madrid for Casemiro, who they also reportedly offered £18 million per season on a five-year contract, which would make him the fourth best paid player in the league.
