"They make bad decisions": Ten Hag FUMING at players after 4-0 loss

The Dutch manager let it slide that not all is down to the manager's tactics

The Erik ten Hag era at Manchester United has now, officially, started poorly. For all the hype when the Dutchman was announced as the new Red Devils boss, things quickly started to feel wrong after the club struggled to secure their transfer targets and it became clear that manager was not the signings magnec that he had been reported to be.

Then there was (or is?) the Cristiano Ronaldo saga, with the Portuguese striker praising Ten Hag publicly, but pushing for a move away from Old Trafford, a move that surely hurt the Dutchman's project; can't name many winning sides where the main star is desperate to jump ship.

However, up to that point it was all hypothetical and extra-footballistic. Not a single minute of football had been played to make the assertion that Ten Hag had started on the wrong foot at Old Trafford. But now it has...

Manchester United are now last in the Premier League, having lost their two initial fixtures. First it was a 2-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford, but now a total shaming, 4-0 vs Brentford, who were promoted just two seasons ago.

Speaking after the match, Ten Hag made it clear that no matter how well thought out matches are, somethings go beyond it. "We all have seen the game. Brentford were more hungry and we conceded goals from individual mistakes. You can have a good plan, but then you have to put the plan in the bin", explained the Dutch manager, "It's got nothing to do with tactics, the first two goals were about dealing with the ball".

It certainly looks like the former Ajax manager wasn't happy with how his players took on the match, and it must be said that while trying to implement a possession heavy style, Ten Hag did not get many of the players he wanted to take the team forward. The manager's words may sound like a warning to the board that with this squad he won't be able to do much: "They follow my instructions, but they make bad decisions. This is football, it is a game of mistakes and you get punished".
