For many of us who grew up during the 1990s and 2000s, the dugouts of Italian football sides are starting to look like a familiar sight. Daniele de Rossi, the Roma and Italy star, will be joining the likes of Simone and Filippo Inzaghi, Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo, Vincenzo Montella and others as new head coach, with the former 2006 World Cup-winner is set to take over a Serie B side.

As multiple media reports in Italy, including transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio or Sky Sport Italia, the former Roma and Boca Juniors midfielder will begin hist coaching career in Ferrara. De Rossi is set to take over   on the SPAL bench as former coach Roberto Venturato's replacement after an agreement was reached in the early afternoon.

SPAL is currently 14th in Serie B, the second tier of Italian football, after just two victories in 9 games. Roberto Venturato has been fired and owner Joe Tacopina (who previously owned shares at AS Roma, Bologna and Venezia) has decided to entrust the job to the former Roma captain.

While the deal is not yet fully confirmed, the expectaction is that it's only a matter of details, and a deal linking De Rossi to SPAL until 2024 will go through. So far, the Italian's only coaching experience comes from assisting Roberto Mancini with the National Team, where he was part of the coaching staff of the Euro 2020 winners.
