Chelsea SCRAMBLING for signings as they're told to LOOK ELSEWHERE

The Blues were aiming for a Premier League centreback, but they're hitting a wall once again

Thomas Tuchel can't quite catch a break, can he? The Premier League season is almost upon us, but Chelsea is still trying to close down signings like it's mid-June. The Blues have struggled to seal their targets for this window, with long and gruelling negotiations that end up nowhere, like it was with Jules Koundé or Raphinha. Now, they're scrambling to close down one of their last options, Leicester City's Wesley Fofana, but not even that is coming along well.

One of a myriad of centrebacks that the Blues have targeted this window, Fofana is an excellent option for any club in need of a top, young centreback. Except, that makes his current club very hesitant to sell. Leicester City know they have to sell, as their 8th position finish last season means they will miss on any European competition income, and this put them in trouble. However, they're not at a point where they'd consider selling just about anyone.

"Wesley Fofana and James Maddison are not for sale. These are very important players to us", explained the Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers. This puts a huge obstacle in Chelsea's way, as not only they were hoping to get Fofana, but also trying to lower Leicester's asking prize by incluiding one of their own in the case that Maddison went to Newcastle United.

Rodgers furthered on their position: "We're in a situation where we need to move some players out but that doesn't mean getting rid of anyone, our best assets". The Foxes remain Champions League hopefuls, after narrowly missing out on breaking the top six on 2019-20 and 2020-21, finishing fifth after clawing to a top four spot for most of both seasons.

It's another stick in the wheel for Chelsea, who will have to start their season without all the reinforcements Thomas Tuchel has requested, and quite possibly another transfer target that goes amiss.
