"They only talk when Real Madrid wins": Carvajal is having't none of Xavi's claims
The Merengue defender wasn't happy with the comments made by Xavi Hernandez on which competiton is more just
Controversy between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona is never far away, and this time it's Xavi Hernandez and Dani Carvajal who are at odds. In a clash that splits Spain and that has brought problems to the Spanish National Team at times, there's always a new episode to be written and a new topic to argue about, and this time it's the UEFA Champions League.
That's because Barça coach Xavi Hernandez recently commented that he felt his side was unlucky to lose against Bayern Munich in their second group stage clash: "I think that the Champions League is more complicated because any detail gets you out. The League is more fair".
Carvajal, who's been part of Real Madrid's core that won five Champions League trophys since 2014, is having none of it. "When you have won five of the last nine Champions, luck is on the sidelines", he answered when questioned on Xavi's line of thought recently.
The Spaniard hid none of his annoyance at the claims done by his countryman: "I find it funny that the debate on justice and not justice only appears when Real Madrid wins the Champions League and not when other teams win it". According to Spanish right back, who also won three LaLigas and a Copa del Rey with los Blancos, it all comes down to one thing: "Football is the results. And the one who scores the most goals and concedes the least wins".
However, Dani Carvajal was also open to agree that there is no definitive answer on the matter: "Opinions are subjective and everyone has their own. It is complex to talk about what is fair and what is not, but in recent years we have been the best. Madrid is always among the 4-5 favorite teams for the title. I don't think that when someone faces us they don't see us as a possible champion in the future".
