BAYERN TO STRUGGLE: Bundesliga legend warns they're not the favourites

It is a very rare ocassion that a club wins ten leagues in a row. Even in very single-team or two-team led leagues like Ligue 1 or the Scottish Premiership, even the most dominant runs end before that. That's why Bayern Munich made history last season when they won their 10th Bundesliga title in a row. However, for a German football legend, that could be over very soon.

Jürgen Kohler was one of the best German players of the 1980s and 90s. Often regarded as one of the top defenders of his generation, he played for the likes of FC Koln, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund across a 19 year career, as well as earning over 100 caps for the German National Team, winning the 1990 World Cup with them.

That's why when he's saying Bayern Munich won't be the favourites for the next season of the Bundesliga, you have to listen. "For me Dortmund is the absolute top favourite for the championship this year - not FC Bayern", wrote Kohler in his column for German newspaper Kicker.

According to the German legend, Bayern's latest signing of Sadio Mané "is a striker with exceptional skills, but he will not be a classic replacement" for the sure to depart Robert Lewandowski

With all the turmoil at the Bavarian giants who could lose another top player in Serge Gnabry, and with the added weight of age catching up to some of the leaders of the dressing room and the lack of the players like Javi Martinez who added winning mentality and adaptability, Kohler sees the writing on the wall for Bayern.

Furthermore, Borussia Dortmund, despite losing a figure like Erling Haaland, have added plenty of goalscoring with Karim Adeyemi, and are set to have Sebastien Haller join him. With Nico Schlotterbeck joining to bolster the defense, Kohler thinks the Yellow Wall could be celebrating a title this time next year: "With these investments, BVB has the chance to win at least one title and break Bayern's streak".
