The worst forecasts were confirmed. The studies were conclusive and determined that Diego Carlos, centreback for the Brazilian National Team and recently bought by Aston Villa, has a ruptured Achilles tendon and will miss the entire season. This injury is one of the worst that a footballer can suffer due to the pain, and because the recovery is very difficult and requires 7 to 9 months.

After the game, Steven Gerrard, the Aston Villa manager, had raised concerns: "I'm extremely worried about it. It does not look good right now. He needs a scan. The medical staff are very worried".

The truth is that Diego Carlos is out of contention for a long time. In the next few days he will undergo surgery and the goal is for him to be ready for Aston Villa's next pre-season, in June 2023, because rehabilitation requires a lot of patience and time so as not to relapse. Logically, he will not play the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, quite possibly the first star who will miss out on injury.

Brazil National Team manager Tite first capped him because of his level in Sevilla and he had high chances of going to the World Cup as a rotation option, however, this changes the whole picture.

A month ago, Diego Carlos moved to Aston Villa for 36 million euros. So far, the footballer has not made a public statement, but the English media speak of a mood on the ground on the part of the Brazilian. Both Tite and Gerrard, in their respective teams, will have to find a way to replace the defender.
