Newcastle United shook many last week when they came eerily close to beating the Premier League defending champions Manchester City, with the Citizens still able to rescue a draw despite going 3-1 down at St James' Park. With the transfer window soon to be shut, it looks like the Magpies are looking to get the firepower they need to make sure they never miss another big result like that and they've got their man: Real Sociedad's Alexander Isak.

Since their takeover by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, many expected Newcastle United to splash the cash everywhere, like City and PSG did following their purchase by wealthy owners, but the Magpies have conducted themselves with a much more restrained approach. Now, however, they are looking to give manager Eddie Howe the tools he needs.

According to sports website The Athletic, Alexander Isak will be joining Newcastle United from Real Sociedad after a deal was struck with the Spanish side. The striker is expected to travel to St. James' Park soon after agreeing to the deal, which is said to be worth over £60 million. This way, the 22-year-old international from Sweden will surpass Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes, who transferred from Hoffenheim and Lyon respectively, to become the Magpies' all-time record signing

Since transferring from Borussia Dortmund to Sociedad in 2019, the Swedish international has scored 33 goals in 105 La Liga games and was an important man for his country in Euro 2020.

One of the most intriguing young strikers in Europe, Alexander Isak has previously been linked to Arsenal. He's know for his intelligence on the pitch, making smart runs in behind as well as reading the game to position himself in the best place to hurt the defence, though some have  criticised his inconsistency in front of goal, something Eddie Howe will no doubt have to work on.
