The decision on the part of the new Chelsea management gradually matured and the defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League was the perfect excuse to terminate Thomas Tuchel's contract and remove him from his position as manager of Blues' first team. After investing more than £250 million in the last transfer market, Tuchel could not find a way to make his Chelsea team work, so Todd Boehly fired him.

The decision was reported via an official statement which explained: "Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea's history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here. As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition. Chelsea's coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach".

The defeat against Dinamo Zagreb also revealed a series of important differences between Boelhy and Tuchel, which fueled everything for the cause. Chelsea had a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo wrapped and Tuchel rejected him, which was a hot spot of disagreement. Then the same thing happened with Koundé, who went to FC Barcelona and Chelsea couldn't seal it.

Boehly paid £72 million for Wesley Fofana, £58 million for Marc Cucurella, £50 million for Raheem Sterling, £34 for Kalidou Koulibaly and signed Pierre Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer. Despite all this, Tuchel never found his best team and  as a result Chelsea is far from contention in the Premier League. At the moment, The German manager has not yet commented on the matter and leaves his position after a year and seven months, where the obtaining of the 2021 Champions League against Manchester City was his biggest success.
