He won it almost all with Arsenal. He's got a Cup Winners' Cup medal. He even is an Invincible. He is synonymous with Arsenal and with winning. At times, when a legend speaks out it is to critise the work of those who have come after him, but this time Ray Parlour was very commendative of the work the club is doing, particularly on one subject: the signing of Gabriel Jesus.

While the Brazilian striker is still set to be officially announced by the North London club, the deal is as good as done, having been confirmed by multiple sources. Arsenal were in the market for a striker for a long time, following the departures of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in January and then of Alexandre Lacazette after his contract expired the end of the season.

Many names went around, including the likes of Victor Osimhen, Tammy Abraham, Alexander Isak and even Alvaro Morata. However, the Gunners' main target was Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus, who Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta had previously coached during his stint as Pep Guardiola's assistant, and who he was sure could add the necessary attributes to take Arsenal to the next level.

Parlour, who played over 400 matches with the Gunners, was commendative of the signing done by the Spanish manager and one of his former teammates Edu, who's currently Arsenal technical director. "It's a brilliant signing", commented the former Arsenal winger to UK radio talkSPORT. "Centre-forward was the area that they needed to strengthen. We knew that [Alexandre] Lacazette's contract was up and he was moving on and so Gabriel Jesus, to get him through the door is incredible".

Arsenal now remain heavily linked with players in other positions, mainly Ajax' Lisandro Martinez at centreback and Leeds United's Raphinha at winger. Gabriel Jesus, on his part, finished last season with 13 goals and 12 assists in 41 matches for Manchester City, and is know not only for his scoring, but his passing and creativity as well as his ability to play with his back to the goal.
