The WORST news for Simeone: Premier League club is after this Atletico star
One of Atletico Madrid's top performers is in the sights of one of the Premier League's big six
Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur are planning a big move to secure their goal for the coming seasons and the first name on their mind is Jan Oblak. The Atletico Madrid goalkeeper has impressed the Italian coach and with Hugo Lloris dropping his level and nearing a potential retirement, the Slovenian is the Spurs' target.
Lloris, who has been with the team for more than a decade, is reportedly on the way out. The trustworthy Frenchman has played 425 times for the London club, but his deal expires in 2024. According to most sources, the 35-year-old is not anticipated to sign a new contract with the North London club, so Spurs are planning the signing of his replacement.
Top of the list is the 29 year old Slovenian, who has been with the Colchoneros since 2014, when he replaced now-Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as Simeone's number one. He consistently ranks among the top goalkeepers in Europe and was a key member of the Atletico club that won LaLiga in 2021.
Oblak has emerged as the main name in discussions between managing director Fabio Paratici and Conte, but they may have trouble getting him to move to London. The Slovenian signed a contract until 2028 recently, and his release clause (which contracts are mandated by law to have in Spain) sits at over 100 million euros.
Moreover, Tottenham will face competiton from other Premier League sides for the Slovenian's signature, with Manchester United also reportedly looking at alternatives to their first choice goalie after David de Gea's recent blunders.
Jan Oblak joined Atletico Madrid in 2014 from Benfica in exchange for 16 million euros, and has been a key performer for Diego Simeone's side ever since.
