Thomas Tuchel is never one to back down from controversy or a high stakes situation, and he's proved it once again. The German manager is looking to add Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to his Chelsea squad, in what would be the Gabon international return to England just six months after departing in shocking circumstances.

However, according to Tuchel, that had nothing to do with Aubameyang. The Chelsea boss coached the striker when they were both at Borussia Dortmund and he refused to acknowledge the rumours of bad behaviour that circled around Aubameyang during his final days at Arsenal.

"I enjoyed a lot working with him. It was a pleasure", said Tuchel. I never experienced none of this [bad behaviour]. This has nothing to do with the situation at Arsenal which I will also not comment on out of respect. At Dortmund, there was never an issue".

This undoubtedly feels like a bit of a hit at Mikel Arteta, who was confronted with Aubameyang during his last season at Arsenal, and for which he was forced to leave to Barcelona in a move that was costly to the Gunners.

"I don't follow the press about Auba. I don't know if he has a good press or bad press, I couldn't care less", added Tuchel on the matter, "Some players stay your players because you were very, very close. We had a very close relationship". The Gabon international played 95 games under Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, scoring 79 goals and providing 17 assists.

It's clear then why he's chasing Pierre Emerick Aubameyang's signature, particulary as Chelsea are in big need of a striker after the departures of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan and Timo Werner to RB Leipzig. Last season, the former Arsenal man finished with 11 goals in 17 appearances for Barcelona, proving he's still got what it takes to be an elite forward.
