He's one of Barça's biggest stars but he won't be in Qatar 2022

The Blaugranas will have one less representative at the World Cup as this key player for his country will miss out on the big event

Lunes 26 Sep 2022

At this time of year, with the 2022 Qatar World Cup just around the corner, footballers go through weeks of high tension because any injury could leave them out of the big date. The best example of this is Ronald Araújo, the defender of Uruguay and FC Barcelona, who in the friendly against Iran, was injured 30 seconds into the match.

Araújo left the pitch in a lot of pain as he was replaced by a teammate and he returned to Barcelona immediately to have his studies done. The results were worse than believed. The Uruguayan has a rupture in the adductor area of his right leg.

Recently, Araújo, part of his entourage, part of the directive and the medical staff of FC Barcelona had a meeting to define the steps to follow and there were two paths: a very slow and conservative recovery, with no margin for a relapse or and operation to  and forget about the problem.

The defender prioritized his physical condition and will undergo surgery in the next few hours and will miss the World Cup. Although Araújo is surely betting on a miraculous recovery, the FC Barcelona doctors assure that after undergoing surgery, he will not play again in 2022 because he will have three months of rehabilitation.

At the Uruguayan National Team the news fell badly, as  they wanted him to make a conservative recovery and be able to reach the World Cup and they believe that Barcelona ended up convincing him to undergo surgery. The Uruguayan will practically miss out on the Champions League group and will not even play the Clásico against Real Madrid, which will be in October. The Uruguay National Team will debut on November 24 against South Korea.
