ANOTHER FINAL: The scenario that could send City and Liverpool to a tie breaker

Should both clubs win their remaining fixtures, City will the be champions, but should a particular set of results play out, it may take something else to split the two.

The battle between Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City is reaching yet another climax. The contenders of this modern age rivalry will have finished in the top two in three of the last four seasons when all is said and done later this May, and it's looking like it'll be a photo-finish like we lived in 2018/19 where just a single point split the two, on 98 points for City and 97 for Liverpool.

Duels between Manchester City and Liverpool have become the new fiercest rivalry in the Premier League

Should both clubs win their remaining fixtures, it'll be 93 points for the Citizens and 92 for the Reds, once again crowning Guardiola's men by a single point. However, should a particular set of results play out, it may take something else to split the two.

Granted, the situation would be very odd and difficult to come by, but nonetheless worth discussing. Here's what would need to happen: should City  lose 0-6 to Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa and Liverpool draw 5-5 to Wolverhampton,  both would finish the season with 90 points, 96 goals for and 30 against. Since both duels between them finished 2-2, should the magic scenario play out, the rules establish that there should be a tie-breaker match to be played between them.

There's huge respect between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola, but they always want to beat each other.

There's huge respect between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola, but they always want to beat each other.

This would be unprecedented for the Premier League, and doubtlessly a show to be seen, as both clubs fight for the title in what would effectively become a Premier League final. There's no official information on where and when would said match take place, althought it has been suggested it could take place at Old Trafford on May 25th. This would mean Liverpool would have to play two finals in the span of four days, clearly an advantage for Pep's men and Real Madrid

For now, all we know is on the 22nd of May City will host Aston Villa and Liverpool will do the same with Wolverhampton Wanderers, with all fixtures being played at the same time to avoid any tampering. Liverpool need to win and hope the Villians get at least a draw, while City need just to match the Red's result to be crowned Premier League champions.
