Nobody saw THIS coming. When a player asks for a transfer, it's usually putting a lot of pressure on their current club to find the best transfer for them before time runs out. For everyone else, that's an opportunity. In this case, it had only been Chelsea that wanted to take on the opportunity to sign Matthjis de Ligt (with Manchester United a distant second), but now it looks like there will be a third horse in the race: Bayern Munich.

The German giants are embroiled in many controversies this summer, chief among them the one linking Robert Lewandowski with a forced departure from the Bundesliga champions. However, they were yet to be seriously linked with any of the top defenders that are out there in market... until now.

That's because according to Sky Sport Deutschland's Florian Plettenberg, the Bavarian club are interested in signing the former Ajax man. Reportedly, De Ligt met with Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann and their Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidži and was impressed.

With the player interested in joining Bayern, talks have allegedly started with Juventus, although it will be a long road ahead. It's worth remembering that Juve rejected Chelsea's offer of 35 million euros and one of Christian Pulisic or Timo Werner for the Dutchman, and insisted on the full 120 million euros release clause De Light has on his contract
