The Red Devils announced one of their most awaited arrivals, after bidding war with Arsenal

Miércoles 27 Jul 2022

After a long negotiation, Manchester United can finally introduce us to their third signing of this summer transfer market. In a period where it has shown that Erik ten Hag's convincing powers aren't as strong as many initially felt, the Red Devils finally closed down one of the many Ajax players that they've been linked to: Lisandro Martinez.

A day after he was seen arriving at the team's training facility, Lisandro Martinez's transfer from Ajax has finally been officially announced by Manchester United. The Argentine expressed his happiness at heading to Old Trafford, after learning of the delayed confirmation of his signing.

"It's an honour to join this great football club. I've worked so hard to get to this moment and, now that I'm here, I'm going to push myself even further. I've been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career," Martinez said. "That's what I want to continue at Manchester United . There will be a lot of work to get to that moment, but I firmly believe that, under this manager and coaches, and together with my new team-mates, we can do it".

"He's a warrior and I think the fans will admire him", expressed Erik ten Hag. "He has an attitude, fighting spirit. He brings aggressiveness in the game, in a good way. I think we need that. But also, he's also skilful and he can deal with the ball and he's left-footed".

"I think the Premier League is high intensity, lots of challenges. We need such players [with fighting spirit]. Certain ideas, he knows them. That is an advantage, clearly", added the former Ajax boss. "But also he has to adapt, to a new country, a new club, new teammates. So also a lot of things will be different".

Lisandro Martinez reportedly signed a five-year contract with the team, keeping him at Old Trafford through 2027, with an additional year option. He's alledged to be on £6.2million per year, which is around a third of what Raphael Varane makes.  The Argentine, who was awarded player of the year at Ajax last season, has joined the Red Devills in a deal for up to £57 million.
