Manchester United have been having mixed luck in the transfer market recently. Their negotiation for Frenkie de Jong has been long and gruelling, with the bonus of having former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag with team proving of little help to secure the Dutch midfielder. However, they were quick on their fit to hijack Lyon's deal for Tyrell Malacia on record time, and they may be employing that tactic once again.

This time, their objetive is one that's targeted by one of their main rivals, Arsenal FC: none other than Ajax centreback Lisandro Martinez. While the Red Devils seem hellbent on signing every current or former Ajax player they can find, this one seems to make more sense.

United have been on the chase of a centreback to add for quite some time, and with most of their targets already looking set for other clubs (like Jules Koundé) or prohibitively expensive (like Matthjis de Ligt), they have turned to Martinez.

The Argentine is 24 years old and currently one of the usual centrebacks for his National Team. He was one of the targets sought by Arsenal, with Ajax reportedly studying a 40 million euros offer for him from the Gunners.

Now, according to UK newspaper The Sun, Manchester United are tracking how the situation develops, ready to step in at the last minute hijack to the deal, just like they did with Malacia. Arsenal will be looking to close down Lisandro Martinez as soon as possible, to avoid themselves having to do all the heavy lifting only for someone else to come and take the prize.
