Despite their impressive run to the 2019 Champions League semifinal with Ajax, the stars from that incredible team have struggled after leaving the Dutch capital. Frenkie de Jong has failed to convince many at Barcelona and finds himself at the edge of a move away, while Matthjis de Ligt was equally disappointing at Juventus and has just forced a move away to Bayern Munich. However, none have struggled as bad as Donny Van de Beek.

The 25 year old midfielder struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, floundering with Manchester United before a very unsuccessful spell on loan at Everton. Now, many wonder if the arrival of his Ajax former coach, Erik ten Hag, can revitilise his career, but it's looking like there are doubts about that too.

According to various sources across Europe, the Old Trafford side are considering shifting Van de Beek in an interesting swap deal. His destinarion would be none other than AC Milan, a side with a history for skillful Dutch midfielders (like Gullitt, Rijkaard or Seedorf). What would United get out of this? As reported, it would be French-born Algerian midfielder Ismaël Bennacer.

Bennacer, a former Arsenal youth product, has been a soaring success at the Rossoneri, and is reported to be a target of Manchester United. Of course, the deal would not be a straight swap, as Van de Beek's stock has dropped too much, but instead he'd join the Milan club as part compensation. This would help the Red Devils reduce part of the 45 million euros AC Milan expect for Bennacer, but also get the former Ajax playmaker off their books.
