Over the nearly decade and a half since Manchester City's takeover by  Sheikh Mansour, the Sky Blues have been known to make smart signings, but not necessarily shrewd ones; the will get the right players, at any expense. That's according to Catalunyan newspaper El Nacional, who are claiming Pep Guardiola and the City board have agreed to make every effort to sign the German if he becomes a free agent after this season. So far, Kroos has refused to renew his contract at Real Madrid, not out of unhappyness at the Merengue outfit, but claiming he feels he might not be ready to give his best for too long.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has faith that the German will follow his word and keep wearing the white shirt of Madrid until his retirement, as he previously pledged. However, now the issue is that Kross has also been getting other enticing offers, including one from Manchester City, who previously attempted to snag the 2014 World Cup winner.

Guardiola thinks that having a player of his calibre available is always advantageous and that he would be a great asset at the Etihad Stadium. While Kroos has undoubtedly become an icon for los Blancos, it must be said that he would not be a big miss in the long run, with the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde eager to step up and take over the historic Madrid midfield.
