Marc Cucurella is one of the most talented players in the Premier League still playing outside the top six. The 24 year old left back who came through the Barcelona academy and reached stardom with José Bordalas' Getafe has been incredible por Brighton and Hove Albion last season, but now he wants to cash in on that success, at all costs.

The Spaniard has long been rumoured to be on the sights of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. However, Brighton are playing hard to get, asking £50 million for Cucurella and with some reason, as he was voted their player of the season last time around.

However, the Citizens seem to be uninterested in paying such a high fee, with their best offer reportedly coming at £30 million. In this context, Cucurella may feel like his hand has been forced, as in an effort to push through the transfer, he's now submitted a transfer request

Recently questioned on the matter, Guardiola was cautious on with his words: "[Marc Cucurella is] a Brighton player, I cannot say anything else." However, the City boss acknowledged that left-back is an area where he is trying to reinforce after Oleksandr Zinchenko left for Arsenal: "If it's possible [to strengthen at left-back],  yes", said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager. "If it's not, we stay with what we have".

Given that Marc Cucurella has four years left on his contract, the thinking at Brighton is that they're still in a strong position to bargain for a better deal or keep the Spaniard at the club, something the Seagulls are still committed to doing so. Graham Potter will also be disappointed to lose another key member of the first squad before the start of the new campaign after already losing Yves Bissouma to a summer transfer to Tottenham.
