The UEFA Nations League is around the corner and the European national teams are eager to take on the challenge as preparation for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The list of Spanish players called upon by Luis Enrique is public and there's a couple of names missing that shocked many: Ansu Fati and Sergio Ramos.

The Barcelona young starlet has been struggling for fitness ever since his knee injury back in November 2020, and has missed a considerable amount play time recently with hamstring and fitness issues. Having been recently getting minutes under Xavi Hernandez at Barcelona, many expected Luis Enrique to call upon him, but the Spanish National Team manager has remained reluctant.

"[Back in June] we brought Ansu into the group to get him in the team dynamics. So that he has contact with the team and see how he was on the field. He did not participate. Now he does in his club, but in the official matches he has only played one as a starter. This tells me something", explained the former Barcelona manager, "I hope he recovers his level, which I think he doesn't have now. We continue to have high expectations with Ansu and I hope he achieves it".

With these demands presented to him, Luis Enrique was also quick to remind everyone he was the one who gave Fati his debut with the national team:  "I was the first to summon Ansu when he wasn't a starter at his club. The facts will mark what I think. He will return when he has the level of the national team".

Enrique was similarly exasperated with the request for a call up to Sergio Ramos, who has been in good form with Paris Saint Germain. "Its great news to be able to call upon Sergio Ramos on the pitch after a year and a half due to injuries. Now he needs to do it continuously. I can explain it how many times you want, but I think I have called the best for their position".

However, Luis Enrique was clear than the list is far from final: "No door is closed to any Spanish player who could be selected. I don't know the percentage of these players that will be in the World Cup. Do you want me to say 80 percent? 80 percent... I don't know".
