The Senegalese defender will be leaving the Italian club after eight years, and he poured his heart out on Instagram

 When rumours started to gather strenght this summer about the possibility of a move for Kalidou Koulibaly, there was something that lent some credibility to reports the player was considering leaving: he didn't want a move within Italy. Such was the loyalty from the player to Napoli and their tifosi that he didn't want to wear the colours of other Italian clubs.

Now, with his departure to Chelsea is nearly complete and the announcement looks immenent, the Senegalese defender posted an emotional farewell message to the club and it's fans from his Instagram account.

"1 June 2014, an unforgettable date: my arrival in Naples, the beginning of a story of pure love. I was a shy boy, but with a great desire to show the world that I could do it!", opened Koulibaly

"Too many emotions lived together: impossible to summarize them. But I keep everything: in my mind, in my heart", the Senegalese expressed, "I have met people who will forever be part of my life and who made me and my family feel at home: from the first to the last moment. Thanks to you, Naples, I became the man I am today".

"Thank you, Naples and Neapolitans, for all the love we have given each other. You have been everything for me. Now I feel I have to leave and get back into the game: it's time for a new adventure", concludes the message, which is accompanied by a video showing some of the best moments of Koulibaly's career at Naples.


Kalidou Koulibaly will sign with Chelsea a deal for three seasons for 10 million euros per season and with the option to extend the contract for a fourth season. The fee is said to be worth 40 million euros for the complete package. The Senegalese leaves Napoli after 8 years, and having played 317 matches for the club across all competitions.
