In the world of football transfers, some negotiations are easy; the player is interested, the fee is clear, the buying club has the cash and everything runs smoothly. Most of the time, however, it's the complete opposite, and it seems like this will be the case with the deal that Manchester United is looking to make for Frenkie de Jong

While the Red Devils are convinced the former Ajax player is the man to kickstart the Erik ten Hag era, both FC Barcelona and De Jong himself remain reticent. The club knows they have to sell to pass the requirement they need to register the signings they make this season, but are hesitant to sell De Jong of all players, while the player, who hasn't had the easiest of times in the Catalan giants, remains quiet, with most informations claiming he'd rather stay at Barça.

In this context, the first move has officially been done. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have made an offer of 60 million euros plus another 10 million in add-ons, which has been rejected by Barcelona. However, it's unlikely this deters the Old Trafford club, as talks have been going on since June 1st, and there is still a long road ahead.

According to ESPN correspondent in Barcelona Moises Llorens, Barça expect an offer at a value of at least 100 million euros total to consider selling the player, so negotiations are ongoing. De Jong joined Barcelona in 2019 for 85 million euros, and has since played 139 matches, scoring 13 goals and giving 17 assists.
