The transfer saga of Frenkie de Jong and Manchester United could be at an end very soon. As reported by various journalists, Manchester United and Barcelona have reached a complete agreement on the transfer fee and package that would take the former Ajax man to Old Trafford. As per The Athletic's David Ornstein, it will be 75 million euros plus another 10 million in add-ons fees.

Now, however, comes the tricky part for Manchester United, as they have to convince a very doubtful De Jong to join them. From the very start, the Dutch midfielder has been hesitant about moving, at one point claiming "I prefer to stay at Barcelona. That has always been my dream club and it still is". It is also understood that De Jong is owed a 17 million euros deferred compensation from Barcelona, which is slowing down the move.

However, it could be a case of the Dutch midfielder wanting to have his cake and eat it too. As per Fabrizio Romano, De Jong's agents would have informed Barcelona that the player has no intention to leave, but also will not be accepting any salary reduction. This puts him in a tricky situation, as said lowered wages were one of the condition's for him staying at the Camp Nou.
