The situation with Cristiano Ronaldo is reaching unprecedented levels. Just a year ago, the Portuguese forward returned to Manchester United out love for the club and having been called by Sir Alex Ferguson to snub a much more competitive offer from Manchester City so as not ruin his legacy with the Red Devils.

Disappointment has been the running theme for Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United on his return

How have things changed. Now, with United deepening their crisis and out of the Champions League, the former returning prodigal son Cristiano Ronaldo is looking for any way to leave the club, and keeps getting rejected by every potential suitor. It's in this context that reports have emerged of a key meeting coming up between CR7, his agent Jorge Mendes and the Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag.

At all points, Ten Hag has insisted that the Portuguese legend will be part of his plans, despite Ronaldo missing much of the pre season training on personal issues, and resists the idea of him leaving, so this meeting could be key to settling the score and having every party understang what they want

"Erik ten Hag is waiting to have a new meeting face-to-face with Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent, Jorge Mendes, to discuss the future", explained journalist Fabrizio Romano, who's reporting on the matter. "Ten Hag is still waiting and hoping to keep Cristiano at the club. And what I'm told is that Ronaldo is very happy with Ten Hag. He considers Ten Hag a top manager, the perfect man to rebuild Man Utd".

Cristiano Ronaldo knows what it's like to work under a structure determined to win under Sir Alex Ferguson, and he's not seeing that

The problem for Cristiano Ronaldo would come from the higher up structure at the club, where he sees none of the previous ambition and determination that he experienced during the Sir Alex Ferguson era, which makes him fear this will not be a one year thing. There's also the matter of time. Cristiano Ronaldo will turn 38 next February, and with time against him, he may not have the time to wait out for a rebuild. That's why this meeting could be key for his future in the short and long term.
