The clock is ticking for Chelsea, and they are no closer to fixing their centreback problem than they were at the start of the transfer market. The Blues are still looking for replacements after losing Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen to Barcelona. Without two of their top center backs, many names have made the rounds in the rumous mill, but they have only been able to sign Kalidou Koulibaly so far. With their latest option potentially costing them the fortune of £85 million, the side led by Thomas Tuchel are looking for ways to make it easier.

Over the past few weeks, Chelsea has made a strong effort to get their latest target, Leicester City's Wesley Fofana, but they are still hesitant to pay the price the Foxes are demanding. Therefore, manager Thomas Tuchel and owner Todd Boehly are looking into further options to complete the move, including as a proposal that would see 26 year old midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek move to the King Power Stadium.

According to journalist Nathan Gissing, Chelsea are hoping that the Foxes will consider a bid of £40-45 million plus Loftus-Cheek enough to part ways with Fofana. The midfielder was reportedly a target for the Foxes at some point during this summer. Now that Newcastle United are pushing to sign James Maddison, the Loftus-Cheek alternative  could enter once again the plans of Brendan Rodgers.

Despite being a Chelsea Academy graduate and a full international for England, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has never quite managed to establish himself as a full starter for the Blues, often lacking the consitency to push his many talents forward. He's only ever managed just over 5500 minutes for Chelsea, despite making over 120 appearances. Still, he's a bonified Premier League calibre player, and has scored 13 and assisted 16 for the Stamford Bridge side since making his first-team debut in 2014.
