The clock keeps ticking for Chelsea FC and their search for a new centreback. In the last weeks it has come up that the man they're going for is Leicester City's Wesley Fofana, after failing to secure a number of other alternatives. However, the Foxes are asking for a big pricetag, with the operation potentially reaching as much as £85 million for the Frenchman.

In this context, it's clear that negotiations are going to be slow, but this time it was Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers who updated the situation. "There have been no new proposals for Wesley Fofana this week. There had been two from Chelsea, but neither came anywhere close to the valuation", explained the former Liverpool and Celtic manager, who's having to tackle this coming season without any new signings due to the Foxes financial situation.

However, Rodgers also spoke about his relationship with Fofana and gave his thoughts on the move: "He's a young guy, a very talented player, I communicate openly with him and he knows our thoughts. I don't think about [whether he'll be at Leicester after the market closes]".

The player, for his part, is focused on his work according to manager, not pushing for a move actively but instead getting ready for the coming season, one where Leicester City need to return to European competition to avoid struggles in the market: "Another year here would be important for his development. But he's calm and he understands where the club are and he's just getting on with his work".

Should the move go through, Wesley Fofana would break the record for the most expensive centerback ever set by Liverpool in 2018 when they paid £75 million to Southampton to acquire Virgil Van Dijk, although so far progress on the deal is slow.
