Todd Boehly has waited little to no time to make Chelsea his own team. The 49-year-old American purchased the Stamford Bridge side for £4.25 billion back in May of this year, but he hasn't been shy about getting to work. After spending a record £272million in the transfer market, he decided to end the stint of Champions League winner coach Thomas Tuchel, but he has since showed he had good reason to do so.

Hours after Chelsea's embarrasing 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, it was announced that the German coach would not continue in his position. The American entrepreneur, however, claimed that the club's senior management had decided to dismiss Tuchel long before and that the decision had not been made as a result of that match.

"When you take over any business, you have to make sure you are aligned with the people in the business", explained speaking at the SALT Conference in the US. "Our vision for the club was to find a manager who really wanted to collaborate with us, a coach who really wanted to collaborate. The reality of our decision was that we weren't sure that Thomas saw it the same way we saw it. No one is right or wrong, we just didn't have a shared vision for the future. It wasn't about Zagreb, it was about the shared vision for what we wanted Chelsea to look like".

Boehly explained the challenges that he and his team found upon taking over at Chelsea, and how he went about making it his club: "There are a lot of walls to break down at Chelsea. Before, the first team and academy didn't really share data, didn't share information about where the top players were coming from. Our goal is to bring a team together; all of that needs to be a well-oiled machine".

"We know people, we know human capital. I think we understand game plans and strategies", explained Boehly, "We're not expecting to be the football experts, to find the best talent, we're going to put those people in place".

For his part, Thomas Tuchel recently opened up about his departure from Chelsea in social media, seemingly very saddened by leaving the West London club. "This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write - and it is one I hoped I would not need to do for many years. I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end", Tuchel wrote, "I am honoured to have been a part of this club's history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart".
