DONE DEAL: Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to join Chelsea
One of the most discussed deals of the last few weeks is finally going to happen as both clubs have agreed terms
The deal that everybody was waiting for is finally done: Pierre Emerick Aubameyang will be a Chelsea player. According to sports outlet The Athletic Chelsea and Barcelona have struck a agreement in principle over the signing of the Gabon international.
The most recent offer from the Blues, which was thought to be worth about £12 million, plus the transfer of defender Marcos Alonso, has finally been accepted by the Catalan giants. There were doubts about whether the deal could be completed, as even after recent meeting between the clubs, most sources believed Barcelona weren't interested in the inclusion of Alonso as part of the deal.
However, now the move has been greelit by the Blaugrana board, meaning Aubameyang has been given permission from the club to make the trip to London to complete the move. According to most reports, the 33-year-old forward was given a two-year deal by Chelsea, with the possibility of an additional year depending on how well he performs in his second season with the team.
Even if all goes well, however, it will still be some time until Aubameyang makes his debut, as he's recovering from a broken jaw he suffered as he was assaulted by thieves who broke into his house to rob him. The length of the recovery is likely linked with the choice to do surgery on the injury or not, something that the Gabon international will likely discuss with his new club.
It will be Pierre Emerick Aubameyang's return to the Premier League, just nine months after leaving Arsenal for Barcelona. In his four years with the Gunners, the striker took part in 128 Premier League games, scoring 68 goals.
