Chelsea paid 40 MILLIONS for him and now they're giving him AWAY

The Blues thought they were getting a great deal back when they signed him, but things haven't worked out

When Chelsea announced they had pre-signed Hakim Ziyech for just 40 million euros back in February 2020, many thought they had gotten one of the steals of the year. Flashforward to now and it's looking like anything but that. According to many sources, the Blues are prepared to cut their losses on the 29 year old creative midfielder.

If the doors weren't already wide open for a move away from Chelsea for Ziyech, now that Raheem Sterling has joined the team, they're almost pushing him outside. So far, the only interested taker was AC Milan. Negotiations proved unsuccessful as the Italian side were after a loan deal, but now Chelsea are willing to sell on the low just to get rid of the Netherlands-born Moroccan international.

As UK newspaper The Daily Mail points out, the Blues have lowered their asking price to £8.4 million, which would mean a £24.6 million loss on what they paid to sign Ziyech. Following the failure of earlier negotiations, the two teams are reported to have convened talks this week. However, even if the two sides were able to come to an agreement, Milan would need Ziyech to take a pay cut because they cannot support his £100k weekly salary.

Still, Ziyech is reportedly pressing for the transfer because he wants to play regular football. The former Ajax star is nowhere near the top of Thomas Tuchel's plans, with just 23 appearances last season in the Premier League, amounting to just 1300 minutes played.

It's not just Hakim Ziyech that could be departing Stamford Bridge this season however. Other Chelsea stars such as Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic are also dissatisfied with their playing time and could be leaving. On the other hand, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso have been target by Spanish giants Barcelona, although the chances of a move have reduced since the two clubs clashed over the signing of Jules Koundé.
