Xavi Hernandez is living his worst hours as FC Barcelona manager. Since taking over from Ronald Koeman, the La Masia graduate had been enjoying success, as he proved a breath of fresh air when compared to the previous Blaugrana managers. However, now Barça's spot in the Champions League knockout stages is very much at risk, and despite excellent league form, the rumours are starting to appear. In this context, club president Joan Laporta spoke up to back his man.

The Barcelona president gave an interview to Barça TV before the Clásico and spoke on many things, including the blow that meant being virtually eliminated from the Champions League. However, Laporta made it very clear that the club board fully supports Xavi Hernández.

"I told him to carry on. Let's not think about the Champions League anymore and we are going to focus on the League. We are on the same page, convinced and focused on LaLiga", explained Laporta, who also added that he saw a disthrough Xavi after the two games against Inter Milan, "I saw him sad, touched, hurting. This also affected me because we were all affected".

However, he also highlighted that "Xavi has a virtue that no one I've ever met has. Once we are in a difficult situation, he immediately sees the positive side". While some worried that, due to Barcelona's tricky financial situation, the potential elimination from the Champions League would put Xavi in a difficult spot, Laporta insisted that nothing can be further from the truth. "Confidence in Xavi remains intact, of course. He knows the club and the system perfectly. He is a great person, a great coach, who will give us more success. The coach needs warmth and confidence. We will give it to him and we hope that the fans will too".

While FC Barcelona aren't mathematically out of the Champions League yet, their chances are slim. With two games remaining, they need to beat both Bayern Munich and Viktoria Plzen, and hope that Inter Milan takes less than four points from their clashes against the Czech and German sides. On the other hand, are unbeaten in LaLiga, tied on points with Real Madrid, meaning a good result in the first Clásico of the season could put them on their path to a league title.
