Every time Barcelona president Joan Laporta opens his mouth, you never quite know what he's going to say. We've seen it with the Ousmane Dembele case, we've seen it with the Frenkie de Jong affair, and we'll continue to see it throughout his stint as Barcelona president. Now, he's spoken once again, and he's talking about the club's objectives.

The Blaugrana's have had a very decent market by all accounts, despite continuosly being threatened with financial ruin and having to every rock over to find the capital to register their new players. So far, the Catalan club have added Brazilian Raphinha and Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, as well as Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen on free deals. They've also done a good job of securing their current and future stars, retaining (tecnically re-signing) Ousmane Dembele and most likely Gavi in the coming days.

Now, however, they're going to concentrate on other players and other areas of the pitch, according to Laporta. Barcelona are desperately trying to get rid of the likes of Samuel Umtiti and Óscar Mingueza, after they've succesfully loaned out Clement Lenglet, but they are going to need replacements.

"After Lewandowski deal, we are now looking at strengthening the defense", were the words of Laporta, who's clearly shifting the focus of their signing policies. "I can't speak about the deals we're working on right now. Xavi has given us some ideas, so I hope the culés have some more good news soon", explained the Barcelona president.

In terms of defence, Barcelona have long been linked with Sevilla's Jules Koundé, and Chelsea's Marcos Alonso and César Azpilicueta, while other rumours link them with Monaco's Caio Henrique and Benoit Badiashile as alternatives.
