Another Barça blunder? They sold him for cheap and now he's scoring for fun

The Catalan giants got rid of one of their young strikers in the summer and now they find themselves lamenting it

The Barcelona media are already asking the question: "Did Barça keep the wrong Ferran?". We are talking about the two Ferrans who were together until recently, when one of them had to leave on the cheap for registration reasons. That is Ferran Jutglá, the 23-year-old who had debuted in the Barça first team in December 2021 in times of emergency and who never looked out of place despite the problems. He  arrived at Barcelona in June 2021 to reinforce the B team and, despite being often called a product of La Masía, in reality he worked for much of his career at RCD Espanyol, the Barcelona derby rivals.

Ferran Jutglá played 9 games with Barça's first team scoring twice, but it was at Barça B where he dazzled, scoring 19 goals in 32 games. The board decided that it was best to let him go during the 2022 preseason as the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha joined the squad, and he was sold for just 5 million euros to Brugges in Belgium. Now, Jutglá can't stop scoring goals, and he already has 6 goals in 11 games.

On the other hand, "the other" Ferran, Ferran Torres, is still at Barcelona after the Blaugranas paid 55 million euros to sign him from Manchester City in October 2021 and for now he's yet to deliver on his early promise. "Barça sold Jutglà for a ridiculous 5 million euros and signed Torres for a whopping 55 million" writes Barcelona based newspaper Sport.

At the media, they are critical that Torres is higher up the pecking order than Ansu Fati, who continues to be the darling of the club and the press, the true jewel of Barcelona. "The same day that Ferran Jutglà continued to dazzle for Bruges and scored his first goal in the Champions League, Xavi again trusted a shy Ferran Torres as the first striker off the bench, in another performance to forget," Sport pointed out.

Ferran Torres has scored 8 and assisted 7 in 32 games. But it's not just the statistics, but how his performances look. Every day he impresses less and less and with Jutglá gone and Aubameyang at Chelsea, it's only Robert Lewandowski that has been scoring often for Barcerlona. As the press continues to question the former Manchester City man, it's only his form with the national team that offers a glimmer of hope, while Jutglá continues with his great form in Belgium.
